چکیده
Abstract We show the mathematical formulation of the process of pair production in electromagnetic fields for spinless particles. We compute the probability that pairs are created in the semiclassical approximation, and we prove that, in this approach, the pair creation phenomenon is a stochastic Poisson process. Finally, we give a rigorous demonstration and a suitable interpretation of the Schwinger formula.

Limits on the Applicability of Classical Electromagnetic Fields as Inferred from the Radiation Reaction
Can the wavelength of a classical electromagnetic field be arbitrarily small, or its electric field strength be arbitrarily large? If we require that the radiationreaction force on a charged particle in response to an applied field be smaller than the Lorentz force we find limits on the classical electromagnetic field that herald the need for a better theory, i.e., one in better accord with exp...
متن کاملO ct 1 99 9 Quantized Skyrmion Fields in 2 + 1 Dimensions
A fully quantized field theory is developped for the skyrmion topo-logical excitations of the O(3) symmetric CP 1-Nonlinear Sigma Model in 2+1D. The method allows for the obtainment of arbitrary correlation functions of quantum skyrmion fields. The two-point function is evaluated in three different situations: a) the pure theory; b) the case when it is coupled to fermions which are otherwise no...

متن کاملUltrafast dynamics induced by the interaction of molecules with electromagnetic fields: Several quantum, semiclassical, and classical approaches
Several strategies for simulating the ultrafast dynamics of molecules induced by interactions with electromagnetic fields are presented. After a brief overview of the theory of molecule-field interaction, we present several representative examples of quantum, semiclassical, and classical approaches to describe the ultrafast molecular dynamics, including the multiconfiguration time-dependent Har...
متن کاملDoes a nonzero tunneling probability imply particle production in time-independent classical electromagnetic backgrounds?
In this paper, we probe the validity of the tunneling interpretation that is usually called forth in the literature to explain the phenomenon of particle production by time-independent classical electromagnetic backgrounds. We show that the imaginary part of the effective Lagrangian is zero for a complex scalar field quantized in a time-independent, but otherwise arbitrary, magnetic field. This...
